Proper French cuisine in all its buttery, cheesy glory. If you miss the Fifth Republic from long ago travels, the nourishing pastries and home style meals will reignite your love of France.
Food sits squarely in the authentic categories, with none of French cuisine’s treasures being toned down for Kiwi tastes. Definitely worth spoiling yourself here after starving yourself long enough to follow lunch with a tradition éclair.
Go here to remember your time in the Oise or that quick visit to Sarlat, this is proper French food the way village-dwelling mothers would cook for their city-bound, starving sons.
Authentic French Cafe here in Wellington!
One of the nicest cafes in the city, Cafe Nougatine is a great place to go for French pastry and desserts. All of the food is prepared here in the cafe and you can watch the creations being made.
The pies are delicious as well! Bon appetite!
Unfortunately it is now closed. Very sad.
We stopped by with the kids this morning for coffee and snacks. The selection of pastries was quite different to the one time I'd grabbed a coffee before, so I think the pastry list probably varies regularly.
My partner was quite disappointed that they had run out of plain croissants that early in the day, settling for a sausage roll instead. She was again disappointed with that choice in the end, since the sausage inside was just a plain Frankfurter instead of something nicer.
My ham and cheese croissant was ugly in the best tasting way possible. It wasn't shiny and tidy like most you see, but covered in cooked cheese, making it lovely. The coffees were ok, but probably on the cold side.
Overall, it was nice enough, but could use a few tweaks.
